Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year Breaks Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3 Records At The Box Office.

The opening day collections for any film are crucial as they set a certain base for the film. Business wise, Bollywood is growing bigger by the day and films are now gathering whopping 100, 150 and 200 crores at the box office quite easily.
With the release of Happy New Year this week which has made a massive business of 44. crores(440) millions on its first day itself at the Indian box office alone, it’s time to look at the opening records that have been created in the recent past.
While Happy New Year took the 1st place as the Highest Opening Collection Of All Time, it broke the record of Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 which was previously the Highest Opener Of All Time with a first day collection of36 crores. Reaching the 30 crore mark on the first day itself has been a big deal and the first to attain this feat was Ek Tha Tiger with a collection of 32.92 crores.

Interestingly, the graph has been showing a good raise as films have been outperforming each other every year and new milestones are being created.
In 2013, Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express beat the collections of Ek Tha Tiger, collecting 33.10 crores but still remained behind Dhoom 3. On the other hand, 2014 also had Singham Returns creating a whopping business of 32 crores on its day one which was highest ever for an Ajay Devgn film. There has been a healthy competition and the number games seem to have just begun. Also Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 may have missed the opening day but collected 35.91 crores on the fourth day i.e Monday.
This time creating a record with Happy New Year, SRK has certainly set the benchmark too high with over 44 crores of collection on day one itself. There is a good chance that Aamir Khan’s PK which releases in December may surpass this big number too to become the highest opening day grosser.
