Celebrities have taken to Twitter to send their congratulations to
Kate Middleton and Prince William, who have welcomed a baby boy and
future King to the royal household.
The nation was kept on the edge of its seat for more than 11 hours
after it emerged the Duchess of Cambridge was taken to hospital, with
the Duke by her side, at 5.30am on Monday morning.
And it was soon announced that the Duchess of Cambridge had given
birth to her and the Duke’s first son at 4.24pm at the private Lindo
Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, weighing in at 8lbs 6oz, news
which wasn’t announced to the nation until 8.30pm on Monday evening.
Cheryl Cole was one of the first to send her well
wishes to the happy couple, tweeting: ‘Congratulations to William and
Kate!! So happy they have a healthy baby and everyone is good. Can’t
wait to see him now πΆ #Royalbaby.’
And her Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh also
took to the social netweorking site to show her excitement at the happy
news, tweeting: ‘Aaarrgghh it’s a
boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ππππππππ#RoyalBaby.’
Jack Osbourne, who became a dad himself last year, tweeted: ‘EPIC!!!! a new prince was born. its like real life Game of Thrones #royalbaby.’
And his sister Kelly Osbourne added: ‘#GodBlessOurFutureKing very proud to be british right now!’
Made In Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh appeared to have
known something the rest of the world didn’t when she tweeted: ‘I knew
it was going to be a boy! #royalbaby,’ while her fiancΓ© Professor Green
joked: ‘i hope the royal baby is a rebel, Harry’s all alone out ‘ere.’
This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield sent his well-wishes, writing: ‘It’s a boy! Congratulations #RoyalBaby.’
And comedian Rufus Hound joked: ‘I think they should call it Rufus Hound. #royalbaby.’
Sinitta didn’t fail to show her excitement at the
news either, tweeting: ‘Huge Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of
Cambridge and to the united Kingdom.. #3KingsToCome #RoyalBabyBoy.
Beautiful week in London.’
TOWIE’s James Argent was keen to find out the name of the royal baby, tweeting: ‘So its a boy!!! Have they named him yet!? #RoyalBaby x.’
Meanwhile, it sound like Ben Fogle had a rather busy
day as he was also at St Mary’s Hospital where his sister was waiting
to give birth. He tweeted: ‘Like buses. You wait for ages and then two
come along at the same time…….#theotherbaby.’
And Prime Minister David Cameron also tweeted, saying: ‘I’m delighted
for the Duke and Duchess now their son has been born. The whole country
will celebrate. They’ll make wonderful parents.’
William – who was present at the birth – is thought to have phoned
the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince Harry and the Middletons to inform
them of the happy news.
Both Kate and her new baby boy will stay in hospital overnight, a
spokesman for Kensington Palace confirmed, while William is also thought
to be staying with them this evening.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have said they are ‘delighted’ at the
news, while Prince Charles and Camilla, said in a statement they are
‘overjoyed and proud’ at becoming grandparents.
The official announcement, which was framed and placed on the Easel
outside Buckingham Palace as tradition states, read: ‘Her Royal Highness
the Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm today.
‘Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.’
The announcement was signed by the doctors who were present at the birth of the future King.
