New York City, NY (September 26, 2017) – Tanzanian actors Ernest Napoleon and Idris Sultan are headed
to Cape Town, South Africa next year to film the upcoming heist film ‘The Blue Mauritius.’ The $17
million-dollar production that’s also shooting in Berlin, London, Paris and Acapulco, Mexico. The film is
about five international thieves who travel to Cape Town to steal the most valuable stamp in the world.
“We’re making a film in the vein of ‘Ocean’s Eleven and ‘The Italian Job.’ Said executive producer and
CEO of D Street Media Group, Dexter Davis. It’s a great pleasure to continue D Street’s commitment to
African talent by linking them with other international stars as we have in ‘The Blue Mauritius.’ The film
will not only have U.S. distribution, but will screen in theaters all over the world. Ernest and Idris are
going to shine and I can’t wait to see them together again on the big screen.’
Earlier this year we saw the duo together in their hit Bongo film ‘Kiumeni,’ which Ernest Napoleon also
produced and co-wrote with Daniel Manege.
The film went on to win Best Screenplay and Best Director
at this year’s Zanzibar International Film Festival. Sultan attended the ceremony with other cast
members and filmmakers.
“I’m excited to work again with Idris on a huge project like ‘The Blue Mauritius.’ It’s really been an
incredible year working at D Street as its president, but now I’m getting the opportunity to act more
which is something I really love to do. I’m very grateful to have earned this major part and have been
encouraged to wear different hats at the company. Says Ernest. D Street is changing the game in Africa
when it comes to film and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.”
Idris Sultan had this to say about his involvement. “I met Dexter Davis at ZIFF in July and was impressed
by how committed he was to Africa and African talent. We talked about me working on ‘The Blue
Mauritius’ after I auditioned and got a big part in the film ‘Ballin: On the other side of the world,’ and
here we are two months later and I got another part in an American production. The two films are going
to allow me to work in the United States, something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but acting in these
international productions set in Africa is icing on the cake.”
‘
The Blue Mauritius’ is set to start production in late March 2018, with other major stars like American
actor Eric Dane from ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ French legend Gerard Depardieu, German star Thomas
Kretschmann, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ John Ryes-Davies from ‘Lord of the Rings’ and many more
international stars. South African presenter turned actress Pearl Thusi is also part of the superstar cast.
The film with be produced by D Street Pictures and Benaroya Pictures. The company behind films like
‘Lawless’ with Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain, ‘The Words,’ starring Bradley Copper and Zoe Saldana
and ‘Margin Call’ with Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore and Jeremy Irons.
