SOUTH AFRICAN STREETS TO BE CLOSED FOR THE SHOOTING OF AVENGERS.

Johannesburg residents can expect road closures from Tuesday evening(today), as filming will be underway for the much anticipated Avengers sequel, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
According to Eyewitness News, parts of Commissioner, Sauer, and Albertina Sisulu streets in the city’s Central Business District (CBD) will be closed during filming action photography sequences throughout this week.

“It’s good for the economy and it’s good for filmmaking and the film industry in South Africa,” Johannesburg mayor’s spokesperson, Fred Mokoko, told EWN.
South Africa’s filming industry will also receive a boost with local actors employed as extras on the film set.
Shops in the blocked-off areas will also remain open.
“The great thing about this movie is that they are shooting Johannesburg as Johannesburg. Often you will find filmmakers will shoot in Johannesburg and portray the location as Los Angeles. This time around the first 10 minutes of the film will be of Johannesburg,” Gauteng Film Commission’s (GFC) Desmond Mthembu, told EWN.

But before Johannesburg residents get too excited, the movie’s stars including Robert Downy Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Scarlett Johansson, will not be in town for the shooting.

South Africa has previously been the host to a number of other major blockbusters, including ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’, ‘Invictus’,’ Safe House’, and ‘Blood Diamond’.
