FILM REVIEW: PAIN KILLER

FILM: Pain Killer
CAST: Jenifer Kyaka, Hemed Suleiman, Cathy Rupia, Riyama Ally, Mohamed Fungafunga
DIRECTOR: Leah Mwendamseke(Lamata)
RATING: 3/5
As a film director and writer Leah Mwendamseke(Lamata) is growing everyday, her latest releases including Mr.Nobody and now Pain Killer show the transformation of Lamata in her stories. Pain Killer is not a romantic flick but a personal problem essayed by Hemed which leads to family disaster. Hemed is diagnosed with malaria and is given medications but refuses to use the medications because he has an important seminar in his father's company as a director, so he decides to use pain killers untill the end of the seminar because malaria medications will make him weak so the seminar will not go on as planed. The illness becomes serious due to his refusal of medications so he became mentally ill and kills his daddy(Ahmed ulotu) unconsciously. Hemed is suspected for murder case, on the other hand his uncle(Mohamed Fungafunga) and his wife(Cathy Rupia) are happy with the whole issue since they want to own all of the deceased's wealth illegally because Ahmed Ulotu registered names of his young brother(Mohamed Fungafunga) in all of his belongings because he misused public funds so he feared nationalization of his wealth. Hemed's sister(Jenifer Kyaka) is looking for an advocate for her young brother Hemed because he killed their daddy due to mental illness  not deliberately. Though she faces lots of setbacks but eventually she gets an advocate(Ali Yakuti) who helps Hemed freely and the court releases him but they can't get their father's wealth back since he misused public funds. Hemed is not settled mentally due to his fathers death so one day he is crashed by car and dies.

The story is simple but good which shows that little things we ignore in our lives may cause great problems in our future though the story needed more development. The editing and direction were not very good because some scenes in the court were repeated from day one to the judgement day there was one old man and one old woman seemed to be a couple who looked the same in their costumes from day one up to the last day in the court.

About actors performances, Hemed looked normal and was overshadowed by the supporting actors despite being the hero of the film, Denis didn't show any acting skills. It is Cathy Rupia, Mohamed Fungafunga and Jenifer Kyaka who looked great in their roles. Even Ally Yakuti was great while Ahmed Ulotu was normal. Riyama Ally as a caring friend and Jenifer Kyaka's good adviser was fresh in her character. Find the film and watch it you will get some lessons from people who ignore medications.
