The East African Fashion Industry has few fashion weeks, including Uganda International Fashion Week, Swahili Fashion Week in Tanzania and a few others. However, a new fashion week has risen in the region. It goes by the name, STRUT IT AFRIKA FASHION WEEK!.It is expected to take place this year in Kenya.Strut it Afrika is fast positioning itself as The Leading Model Management and Fashion Show Production Company in East and Central Africa. It also offers other services through it's subsidiary comapny, Strut-e-Gize such as Online Marketing, Event Planning and Concept Development.Of course, not to forget the amazing photo quality S.I.A Studio produces! Also look out for the new S.I.A TV. A lot coming our way from this company. Moses Rnaze Mukiibi, a Ugandan Young Man is the CEO and Founder of Strut It Afrika. He works close in hand with his partners, Malaika Nnyanzi and Kay Bochaberi. Swahiliworldplanet had the pleasure to interview this ambitious young man who has what it takes to be an International Supermodel but decided to lay it all off for the company. We hope you enjoy the interview. Attached are some photos of Strut It Afrika models and Mr. Moses himself.
SWP: Strut It Afrika team is about to start scouting models in different east African countries for the fashion week so is it going to be the major fashion week in East and Central Africa more than the existing fashion weeks?
MOSES MUKIIBI:Well, we would like to think it is going to be the biggest Fashion Week to hit the region, but that is for the general public to decide. Our goal is to accomplish what we have set out to do, and that is exactly what we will do.
SWP:Is it going to take place in Kenya only or even in other country?
MOSES MUKIIBI:The first installment is going to take place in Kenya. The second will take place in another African Country. We are yet to decide which one, but the general idea is a mobile Fashion Week that will bridge the gaps that exist between different cultures. Our aim is to Unite Africa.
SWP:You and your teamwork seem to be led by professionalism, did you attend any fashion or management related course?
MOSES MUKIIBI:Ha ha haaaa ! Not at all. We are all former models who decided to put aside our runway shoes and the fame in order to better the Industry for others that will come after us.
SWP:Will Strut It Afrika fashion week market east African designers and models beyond the African continent and if yes how?
MOSES.MUKIIBI:Most certainly! How is our little secret. If you want to find out, simply follow our facebook page, twitter account, website and most importantly, our Youtube Channel, S.I.A TV.
SWP:Which are the expected countries to participate in the fashion week?
MOSES MUKIIBI:In terms of models, we will have 12 International models from Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Burundi. On top of that, we will have 26 Kenyan models. In terms of designers, we will have designers from all over Africa. from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Nigeria, and many more. Just stay tuned to S.I.A TV!
SWP:Moses Rnaze Mukiibi was a must see male model on the runway at Swahili fashion week 2011 but now you have entered fashion management and organization, is it to say that you are no longer a runway model?
MOSES MUKIIBI:Sigh..! That statement right there makes me feel terrible. Honestly, I miss it. I miss the thrill, the screams, the spotlight. But I had to give it up in order for the company to flourish and for others to benefit. However, every once in a while, I jump back onto the runway, but only for International shows
SWP:How can you view east African fashion industry in recent years?
MOSES MUKIIBI:The east African Fashion Industry has vast potential that is untapped. Most people in this industry are either out here to exploit others or for social fame. They forget the most important aspects, which are to promote talents, safeguard our heritage and to make this industry into a financially viable platform.
SWP: East African countries have hottest talents both fashion designers, models, hair and make up artists and more, yet there are few TV fashion programs and magazines and they are even weekly or monthly, so do you think there is a need to have a fashion Tv in East Africa for marketing the talents and their products beyond the continent?
MOSES MUKIIBI:Most certainly, We released the only way we could make certain people release what is lacking is to simply go out there and make it happen. Thus, we have created S.I.A TV.
SWP:Give any last words to fashion fans for Strut It Afrika fashion week.
MOSES MUKIIBI:There is A LOT coming your way. Whether you are a Fashion Fanatic or not, you will be drawn in. It's Big, It's Fresh and it’s not just a Fashion Show…It’s an experience.SIAFW_2013..... experience Afrika
